GUIDED PROGRAMS FOR GUESTS
IN AND AROUND EGER (Northern Hungary)

I. TOUR TO THE EGER FORTRESS, WARTIME EXERCISES SHOW

(all day program)

Start: from the main entrance of the Castle Museum (from hotel upon request)
Program: An all-inclusive tour in Dobó István Castle Museum: Historical Exhibition, Underground Fortress System (Casamates), Gallery, Dungeon Exhibition, Waxworks, Archery Lane
Wartime exercises show and historical competition (archery, throwing spears, flail fight, cannonball rolling, etc.) with participation of guests.
Visiting a castle wine cellar with wine tasting.
At weekends: change of guards

II. SIGHTSEEING AND WINE TASTING IN EGER, THE "BAROQUE TREASURE BOX"

(all day program)

Start: from the main entrance of the Basilica (from hotel upon request)
Program:
Visiting the Basilica, Lyceum – Specula Observatory, Dobó Square, Marzipan Museum
Tour to the Fazola gates and the Dobó István Castle Museum
Taking a small sightseeing train from Dobó Square to the Valley of the Beautiful Woman
Dinner in the Beautiful Woman Inn (with a gratis drink and national art show accompanied by music)
Visiting Eger wine cellars, wine tasting with gypsy music

III. HISTORICAL DAY IN MEZŐKÖVESD AND NOSZVAJ

(all day program)

Start: from hotel
Program:
Driving to Mezőkövesd, the Matyó Land (journey time: 20 minutes)
Visiting the Agricultural Machine Museum (a unique collection of tractors, steam-engines, horse-gins, water-wheels of mills, grinders, threshing machines, hemp breakers, etc. from the last century.)
Folk Activity Houses (doll making, weaving and spinning, furniture decorating, embroidering, pottery, glass-grinding) and Houses Specific for the Region. Visit to the Matyo Museum.
Driving to Noszvaj (journey time: 15 minutes)
Visiting the De la Motte Castle, national art show accompanied by music
Promenade in the village with horses
Baking local cakes in the old-time ovens of farmers, cake and wine tasting.
Returning to Eger.

IV. SPA AND WELLNESS BATH EGERSZALÓK

Start: from hotel
Program:
Driving to Egerszalók (journey time: 15 minutes)
Enjoying the natural medicinal water running down from the hillside, which has formed a special strip limestone formation. The unique spring in Europe can only be found in two other places in the world: Pamukkale, Turkey and the Yellowstone Park, US. In the facility there are 17 open air and indoor swimming pools – sedentary pools with thermal water, bubble bath, theme pools, water-chute and children’s pools. Some of the services: Cleopatra Bath, Thalasso Clay Pack, Eger Red Grape Therapy, Spa Marine Refreshing Massage, Relaxing Aroma Massage, Solarium. Beauticians and hairdressers are at the guests’ disposal.
Returning to Eger.

V. TOUR TO SZILVÁSVÁRAD, HOME OF THE LIPIZZANER HORSES

(all day program)

Start: from MAV Eger Castle railway station (from hotel upon request)
Program:
Departure of train from MÁV Eger Castle railway station (journey time: 40 minutes)
Arrival at Szilvásvárad, visiting the Forestry Museum, a walk in the beautiful Szalajka Valley: visiting the Open-air Forest Museum, the beautiful Veil Waterfall. Picnic on the meadow (with facilities for barbecue).
Hiking up a trail to the Istállóskõ Cave (20 minutes' walk uphill to the cave).
Horse riding show: dressage test of the famous Lipizzaner horses at their place of origin.
Departure from Szilvásvárad to Eger by train.

VI. WALK AND HISTORICAL HORSE SHOW, FELSŐTÁRKÁNY

(all day program)

Start: from hotel
Program:
Departure for Felsõtárkány (journey time: 30 minutes)
Taking the Felsõtárkány small train to the Stimecz House (journey time: 25 minutes)
Optional programs: walking on the forest study trail of the Red Stone Valley, having a picnic
Returning by the small train to Felsõtárkány, getting off at Egeres Valley Horse Farm
Horse riding show – dressage test, show jumping with the participation of the audience
(jumping over a laid table, horseback riding with hands released, jumping over people).
16-17. century riding show (with music), archery show, opportunity for guests to ride.
Outdoor cooking and eating of a Hungarian dish (goulash, fish soup, stew, as requested) cooked
above fire together at the grassy horsefarm. Returning to Eger.

Extra program: visiting BUDAPEST and her sights (one day)

All the programs are flexible, can be changed to match the guests’ schedule and needs. Admission to the institutes of the above programs and the charge of any service provided by them has to be paid by the service user on the premises. Programs not included in this brochure can also be requested by the guests, with free transportation to the premises within 20 kms. Transportation to premises farther than 20 kms, including Budapest, will be paid by the guests. The programs are available: for any day from 26 February, 2008.
